Do Rehab Centers in Pennsylvania Let You Go to Church While You’re There?

In This Article

Entering a rehab program takes faith, but the level of religious support you receive while in a treatment program depends entirely on your personal assessment. Just Believe Recovery Center provides secular care and is not associated with one particular religious belief system. We realize some patients benefit from being able to attend church services and similar activities, and like any other pressing need, we address those concerns through an individual treatment plan.

Religious Options for Rehab Patients

Every rehab facility is different from the next. We focus on holistic care during the recovery process and promote mindfulness practices, even for those who are not spiritual in nature. Meditation, for instance, helps patients focus on the here and now. It helps them honor their current choices and recognize their strengths. This can be a cathartic, even spiritual experience for some, but is not intended as a replacement for or introduction of religious practice.

You won’t have to worry about your treatment infringing on your beliefs.

We know how vulnerable patients are during recovery. You can count on Just Believe Recovery Center to protect you from undo influences. We strive to accommodate your every need, particularly your need for support. There are plenty of options for those seeking a faith-based recovery program.

For instance, given appropriate supervisory approval, a resident patient may:

  • Attend local services at a church of your choice
  • Adhere to religious dietary restrictions
  • Observe religious practices as you normally would outside of treatment

In situations where attending worship outside our facility would put recovery at risk, we will use alternative solutions, such as televised services, in their place.

Methods Used in Treating Addiction

At Just Believe Recovery Center, we use a variety of methods to help you overcome your addictions and reclaim your best life. These include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Cognitive behavior therapy
  • Fitness and nutrition counseling
  • Group therapy and support
  • Relapse prevention counseling
  • Art and music therapy
  • Spiritual therapy

Religious support might be an important component for your treatment plan. Your assessment helps reveal the types of support best suited to your journey. Patient and healthcare professionals work together to create the perfect mix of physical and emotional tools required for your success. Your personal care providers will adjust programs too as your needs change throughout the process.

Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.

We’re your support team while you strive to meet the milestones. Our job is to provide you with the resources you need to make progress.

Will My Pennsylvania Rehab Center Accommodate My Dietary Needs?

A healthy body and healthy mind work together to keep you on the path to greatness. We provide first-rate nutritional counseling and fitness instruction to all our patients. This includes paying attention to dietary restrictions you have for physical, personal or religious reasons.

Examples include:

  • Vegetarian or vegan meals
  • Kosher or Halal foods
  • Meat, egg and dairy restrictions
  • Restricted dining hours

As your care providers, we want you to be as comfortable and healthy as possible during your residential stay and afterward as you graduate our program. During your intake interview, talk to your counselor about your food preferences. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate you.

Attending Church During Detox

One of the services we offer new patients is a medically-supervised detoxification process that lasts an average of five to seven days. During this time, licensed physicians and nursing staff will observe you 24-hours a day to ensure your well-being.

Detox can be dangerous and has a stressful impact on your body and mind. Spiritual counseling can be helpful for you at this time. It’s an option to discuss before treatment begins. While you won’t be able to leave the center to attend a church service, we can explore alternatives to find a solution that provides you with the support you need.

Staying Connected Through Church Through PHP

Our patients have several options to consider when enrolling in a treatment program, including the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). This is ideal for those who’ve made adequate progress in our residential program or those who aren’t able to make that level of commitment.

PHP includes six hours of onsite treatment, Monday through Friday, allowing you to stay involved in your community.

Whether or not this includes staying active in your local church is determined during your assessment. Religious activities are rarely a risk to your recovery. We will help you deal with exceptions. Sometimes, all it takes is a slight adjustment to create a safe and healthy environment helpful in your treatment plan.

Will I Be Forced to Go to Church?

In 2008, a study was published which showed correlations between faith and recovery rates. This has convinced well-meaning friends and family to insist on faith-based recovery programs, as if it were possible to prevent relapse by manufacturing belief.

Infusing a recovery program with spirituality when the patient is resistant will have more harm than good. While we will build religious components into your treatment when helpful, no one will force you to go to church.

Faith is a very personal part of who we are, and as your recovery tests and changes you, it is completely normal for you to question your beliefs. As you become the best version of yourself, your practices may change dramatically.

While healthy, supportive relationships make room for these kinds of changes, be prepared. Loved ones might have a hard time accepting your new attitudes and behaviors. Be patient, and stay focused on your path, your journey and reach out to staff if you need help.

Helping Friends and Family Accept the New You

Religious activity is just one of the many ways you will change on your journey through recovery. Our post-treatment preparation, counseling and support will help you deal with resistance you face from family and friends.

Ready to get on the road to recovery? Feel better knowing your commitment won’t interfere with your beliefs. We’ll give you as much assistance as you need staying in touch with your spirituality.
