Major Heroin Bust in Providence, RI – $550K Seized

In the last few days, Providence law enforcement seized over $550,000 worth of drugs in a heroin bust, in addition to making 7 arrests.

Yesterday, police announced that one of the seizures contained a substance suspected to be fentanyl, the way-more-powerful opioid that is sometimes laced into heroin or replaced for it outright. Police said the suspected fentanyl drug has been sent to a toxicology lab for analysis.

Col. Hugh Clements, Providence Police Department:

“These dangerous drugs — heroin, cocaine, more specifically lately with the overdose epidemic in the United States, and certainly in our city and in our state, is the poisoning of our streets. And there’s no question, no doubt that this arrest will have a significant impact.”

“I commend our officers in the Intelligence Unit and Narcotics Bureau for their tireless efforts to rid the City of high level heroin distribution. These specialized units within the department will continue to make every effort to dismantle drug activity using any resource necessary.”

In total, the police seized 4 kilos of heroin, over $65,000 cash, 4 vehicles and several guns. The 3 busts came after a 9-month investigation.
