What Are the Most Important Things to Remember when Seeking Pennsylvania Addiction Treatment?

Shame and Addiction | Just Believe Recovery PA

In This Article

Are you considering seeking treatment for an addiction problem in Pennsylvania? Are you tired of the life you are leading because of your addiction to drugs, alcohol, or both? Maybe you are simply helping someone you love find the right treatment plan. Whatever the case, read on to learn the most important things to remember when you are seeking treatment for addiction in Pennsylvania. There are many factors to consider when you are faced with choosing the right rehab.

Think About Your Goals

Every rehab in Pennsylvania will offer different specialties. While most will follow a general pattern, every treatment facility will go about the steps a bit differently. You will need to go into rehab knowing what you want to recover from and what behaviors you want to address. While everyone has a long-term goal of staying sober forever, it is better to break your goals down into short-term ones at the start. You’ll have a better chance of succeeding if you take it small steps at a time. Keep your goals firmly in mind at all times.

Address Your Behavioral Problems

One thing that you will learn in rehab is that you have to work on your underlying problems and not just the addiction. This means addressing any mental or mood disorders you may have. You can’t go into rehab if you aren’t ready to admit that your moods and behaviors can cause you to use drugs or drink. Think about the other problems you have that affect your drug use. Do you abuse drugs because of a medical condition? Are you suffering from PTSD and use alcohol to forget the past? Most patients are suffering from some type of mood disorder or past problem that directly affects their drug use. Be ready to address your deepest issues while you are in rehab.

Consider How You Will Pay

If you have insurance, make sure to use it as much as possible. Once you have narrowed down the rehab centers you may want to check into, find out which ones will take your insurance. You can also talk to your own insurance representative who can help you find the right rehab in Pennsylvania. Don’t be afraid to call the rehab yourself to talk about what all is covered.

If you don’t have insurance or if your insurance doesn’t cover everything you need to get clean, there are other options in PA. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration recognizes 479 rehabs in Pennsylvania. Out of these 479 rehabs, 73 of them provide some type of payment assistance for most men and women. You may also qualify for grants for addiction treatment in PA. Most rehabs will also accept private pay if you have the money for treatment.

Even if you aren’t ready to check into rehab yet, it won’t hurt to learn more about the centers in PA. Having an idea of where you will go once you are ready will make the decision much easier when you are ready to make the change. When you have all of your “ducks in a row,” the experience will be much less stressful overall.

Ask the Right Questions

Since every rehab is different, it is important to ask the right questions after you have narrowed it down to a few. Read on to learn more:

  • Is there a waiting list to get a bed?
  • Is the rehab licensed in the state of Pennsylvania?
  • Do they offer medically-supervised detox services?
  • How long are the programs?
  • Do they offer both inpatient and outpatient treatment?
  • What types of programs will you participate in while you are there?
  • Can family and friends visit you at any point?
  • Are you allowed to have a personal cell phone while you are there?
  • Is family therapy included in the process?
